Watermelon Basil Margarita

Updated: Jul 11, 2020

The Dish: Blending up some watermelon is super quick and makes for delicious drinks! Watermelon is so flavorful when ripe, so no added sugar is needed. The basil adds some nice flavor, but you can skip it if you prefer. For this recipe, I blended about 1/8 of a watermelon with 10 basil leaves and got about 12 ounces of juice. Enjoy!

Serving Size: 1 cocktail | Calories per Serving: 160

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces Tequila (For this recipe I like Casamigos Blanco)

  • 2 ounces Watermelon Basil juice (see below)

  • 3/4 ounce Fresh Lime Juice (just under 1 whole lime, with 1 wedge saved)

DIRECTIONS

If you can’t live without salt on the rim: Pour salt onto a plate or cutting board. Cut a slit in the lime wedge and go around half of the glass being used. Drag the lime-rimmed glass through the salt.

Start here if you do not like salt on the rim: Fill glass with ice and set aside.

Watermelon Basil Juice:

In a blender add the watermelon and basil. Using about 1/8 of a watermelon with 10 basil leaves will provide about 12 ounces of Watermelon Basil juice. (Enough for 6 drinks). Blend until it is all liquid and basil is all chopped.

In an ice-filled shaker, combine tequila, watermelon basil juice, and lime juice. Shake vigorously for 20-30 seconds.

Pour into ice-filled glass, add lime wedge as a garnish, and enjoy!
